The Cinderella Castle Dream Lights have been one of the most iconic parts of the holidays at Walt Disney World ever since they premiered and we are paying tribute to this classic part of the Christmas season.
1. Cinderella Lighting
When the display first premiered it was accompanied by a lighting ceremony hosted by Mickey and Friends, and Cinderella characters.
2. Frozen Overlay
After the massive success of Frozen, the display's lighting ceremony got an overlay where Elsa turned the display on with her powers, accompanied by other friends from Arendelle.
3. Number of Lights
The display involves 200,000 lights to create the impressive icicle lights that cover Cinderella Castle.
4. Beyond the Party
Even though most Christmas celebrations are exclusive to the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, this display happened every night of the holiday season.
5. Crane
This display required a massive crane to attach the lights to the iconic Cinderella Castle.
6. Paris
This display is inspired by a similar one that has been in use on Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Paris.
7. LED
These lights are highly efficient LED lights that contribute to Disney's efforts to make their parks more energy efficient.
8. Beginnings
This display has been shown every year from 2007 to 2019 at the Magic Kingdom.
9. Projections
The lights are turned off during the holidays in recent years to allow for projection mapping during fireworks shows.
10. Pandemic
The light display did not return amid the global 2020 COVID19 pandemic.
