Disney just announced that the next Disney orignal animated film will be premiering on Disney Plus at the same time as it premiers in theaters.
This move comes after Warner Bros announced that their entire lineup would be premiering on HBOMax. This is the first major Disney release of 2021, suggesting Disney may be making many of the same moves throughout the year.
Raya will follow Pixar's Soul to the streaming service as an original animated film originally intended for a theatrical release that will instead be premireing on the service. Previously Mulan was released as Premier Access and charged Disney Plus subscribers $30 for the first three months of the film's release.
The film is set to come out in March as the first Disney animated feature film to be released since the onset of the COVID19 Pandemic.
Disney notably has not yet announced the move of any other films to Disney Plus, including notably any Marvel releases or live-action Disney Plus films currently set to come out in 2021.
