The Lasting Impact of Discovery Bay on the Disney Parks: Never Built Disneyland

Never Built Disneyland

Discovery Bay Concept Art Disneyland

Disneyland's Discovery Bay may never have gotten built, but it had a bigger impact than almost any other never-built Disney project that continues to affect Disney Parks around the world through to this day. Everything from small details to massive lands have been created in tribute to this lost part of Disney history.

We are going to take you through some of the biggest lasting impacts of this part of Disneyland history all around the world.

Figment Final Scene Journey Into Imagination Epcot Walt Disney World

One of its never built attractions, Professor Marvel, became one of the most beloved Disney rides of all time, the original version of Journey Into Imagination, leading to the creation of Dreamfinder and Figment. They remain some of the most iconic parts of Epcot to this day.

Mysterious Island Tokyo DisneySea App

Much of the Mysterious Island in Tokyo DisneySea took inspiration from this land, having been based on many of the same stories from Jules Verne.

Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris brought many elements of the land to life, including the Hyperion Airship and the Nautilus, all being recreated in a different Verne inspired environment.

Several characters of this land have also begun being referenced in Disney Parks locations in recent years as Disney extends the lore of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, incorporating some parts of the land into its backstory.

Jason Chandler Stagecoach Frontierland Discovery Bay Disneyland

But in the proposed location of Discovery Bay, there is a small, simple tribute to this elaborate land that gave so much to the Disney Parks. A single red coach sits at the entrance of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge along Big Thunder Trail, where Discovery Bay would have stood.

This coach features a package addressed to Jason Chandler, bringing a small part of its legacy to its originally proposed location.

Thank you for exploring Discovery Bay these past few weeks with us. You can now check out this full miniseries here at Never Built Disneyland. Also, be sure to come back next week when Never Built Disneyland continues to explore the Land of Legends.
