When Will Disneyland Forward Open?

Disneyland Forward Expansion Concept Art

Disneyland is currently in the middle of a massive expansion proposal known as Disneyland Forward that would involve massive new lands for both Disney California Adventure and Disneyland including attractions based on Black Panther, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, and more.

While this proposal may not actually happen if it does, what kind of timeline are we talking about for this expansion?

Disneyland has stated that for the next roughly two years they will be attempting to get changes made to various regulations they face on their land. So any construction would realistically take place after that point.

This is also in line with currently announced expansion plans like Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, the Splash Mountain redo, and the Avengers ride, with construction being able to start roughly after these three attractions would have opened.

There is a major reason I think Disneyland is still considering a massive expansion amid the tail end of the COVID19 pandemic and the economic impacts that will almost certainly outlast the pandemic. LA is scheduled to host the Olympics in 2028.

The Olympics are a major international event that will bring people from all around the world to the Southern California region and hopefully bring a massive increase in tourism to the area, including Disneyland.

Tokyo Disneyland recently completed a massive expansion that was scheduled to be completed prior to the 2020 Olympics. Obviously, this didn't end up happening, but if it had then Tokyo Disneyland could have reintroduced itself in a whole new way to the world with the first Beauty and the Beast ride in the world.

Disneyland also has had a consistent problem with crowding. Both parks are running out of expansion space and desperately need new walkable areas. This new area is desperately needed for both parks, especially if they want to capitalize on the Olympics.

If any kind of expansion happens from the Disneyland Forward proposal, I would expect it to be strategically scheduled to open alongside the Olympics. Likely slightly before so it has enough time to work out any problems with the new attractions, but close enough that they can still be called new at the time of the Olympics.

While this exact version of the plan may not be realistic, I certainly think there is a plan for some kind of expansion before this major event in the region.
