Review: Bites and Pints Festival at Lake Compounce

Lake Compounce

Bites and Pints Food and Beverage Festival Entrance Lake Compounce Amusement Park

Lake Compounce is celebrating its 175th anniversary, and as a part of the year-long celebration, it is having a month-long weekend food and beverage festival featuring offerings from local restaurants around Connecticut.

We sent a team down to Lake Compounce to enjoy the offerings and try some of the exclusive new food items.

Wildcat Wooden Roller Coaster Lake Compounce Amusement Park

The festival is located in the back half of the park near the entrance of Wildcat, with a special archway showing the entrance to the different food booths. There is also a both near this archway that you can buy a card to try many of the different food items for a lesser cost.

Our team tried two of the food offerings at the festival while at the park which we review below.

The Art of YUM Taco Bites and Pints Food and Beverage Festival Lake Compounce

The first offering we tried was The Art of YUM (TAOY) Taco. This single taco is a great snack or appetizer as you graze through many choices at Lakes Compounce Bites and Pints. The chicken was moist and delicious and the pork belly jam provides a taste of bacon that combined with the pickled vegetable T.A.O.Y sauce provides a flavorful treat.

I was worried the pork belly jam would add a salty taste to the taco but this was not the case. If you like chicken and bacon then this is the perfect snack for you. I recommend The Art of YUM (TAOY) Taco.

Big James Burger Bites and Pints Food Festival Lake Compounce

The other thing that we tried was the Big James Burger. This burger was crunchy and crispy and had good texture. The BBQ sauce that comes with the burger also added just the right amount of tang to elevate the dish above its normal flavor profile.

Near the food booths is a new stage where local bands are playing live music. It is great to see some live entertainment return to the park now that social distancing restrictions are winding down. The park really should find a way to turn off the area music nearby though as the two songs drown each other out.

Overall this was a wonderful addition to the park, and it would be great to see this or similar offerings extended throughout the summer. The food was top quality and Lake Compounce can never go wrong with more live entertainment. Bites and Pints was a welcome addition to the park and its only major problem is its brief tenure at the park.
