The Disneyland Railroad is one of the best rides ever built in any Disney Park in the world, and a personal favorite attraction of Walt Disney himself. This ride is so much more than just a transportation method.
In honor of this classic part of the original Disneyland, we are sharing 10 fun facts and secrets about the Disneyland Railroad.
1. Classic Trains
Several of the train locomotives used on the Disneyland Railroad actually predate the park, some by over half a century.
2. Passing Through
You pass through many attraction buildings during a ride on the Disneyland Railroad, including The Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, and It's a Small World.
3. Inspiration
This ride was inspired by Walt Disney's own love of railroads big and small. This concept has been brought to Disney Parks around the world.
4. World's Fair
The Primeval World diorama features dinosaur animatronics that were reused after being originally created for the Ford's Magic Skyway attraction at the 1964 World's Fair in New York.
5. Left Turn
This attraction got its first-ever left-hand turn after a refurbishment to add room for Star Wars Galaxy's Edge to the park.
6. Multiple Stops
This attraction has four stops throughout the park, including on Main Street USA, New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, and Tomorrowland.
7. Names
The various locomotives of this attraction each have their own unique name, in tribute to significant figures in the history of trains or Disney.
8. Seating
The Disneyland Railroad features a combination of different types of seating cars, with some facing inward towards the park designed to help better view the park's attractions and others being more traditional front-facing seating.
9. Berm
The Disneyland Railroad is located on the berm of the park, which provides a border between Disneyland and the outside world.
10. Railroad Elements
All railroad elements found throughout the attractions are scaled down to the size of the locomotives to ensure the ride all ties together correctly.
