Disney California Adventure may not be open, but regardless we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the park that made the Disneyland Resort what it is today.

After a less than successful opening year, Disney began a massive reimagining of the park involving multiple expansions and redesigned attractions to transform it into the park it is today, and little remains today of the initial park.

One of the major success stories from the early years of the park, Soarin, has since been cloned to Walt Disney World, Shanghai Disneyland, and Tokyo DisneySea becoming one of the most popular Disney attractions of all time.

This park has become home to many of Disney and Pixar's modern successful films, serving as the more modern constantly changing park compared to the classic and charming Disneyland across the Esplanade. Even great attractions have closed here to make way for new rides and shows from popular hit films, bringing us even more great rides that can be found nowhere else in the world.

So much of this park is entirely unique and perfectly tied in with the California theme. Cars Land alone is one of the most immersive experiences ever built in any Disney Park and helped make the park into the success it is today.

Radiator Springs Racers became a must ride experience at the Disneyland Resort and helped the park become an essential part of any visit to the resort as opposed to an afterthought to the original Disneyland.

The park has continued to evolve each year, injecting characters into every space and making the park ever more relevant with additions from Mission Breakout to Pixar Pier.

Disney California Adventure isn't the same park it was 20 years ago, but that really represents what the park is today. A constantly changing modern Disney experience still tied into the classic idealized California experience.

So we celebrate the past and the future of Disney California Adventure, and look forward to the time we can venture into the park once more, and not just as a part of Downtown Disney.
