Extinct Universal Tribute
A Day In The Park With Barney and Friends was a stage show at Universal Studios Florida based on the iconic children's series Barney. Based on the early seasons of the show, this stage show became one of the longest-lasting shows in the park and a classic part of Kidzone.
Added in 1995, this replaced the Psycho 4 set that had been at the park since it opened.
The plaza that held the show involved a plaza featuring a water fountain of titular purple dinosaur and two main elements both held in the same building. The main show and the Barney's Backyard indoor play area that featured a Barney meet and greet.
It started with a preshow starring Mr. Peek-A-Boo at his home before he magically stopped a waterfall, allowing you to pass through a cave to go meet Barney and his friends.
You then enter the public park themed theater and take a seat in one of the multiple audience seating sections surrounding a central stage. Peek-A-Boo appears on stage and calls upon Barney, Baby-Bop-and BJ who appear on stage.
Notably, Barney's original voice actor Bob West can be heard in this attraction that was created during his years as the character.
The three of them all come on stage to perform classic songs from the early years of the show with special lighting, physical effects, and music for each song.
The songs in the show included If All The Raindrops, Mr. Knickerbocker, Down On Grandpa's Farm, Barney's theme song, and I Love You. The show ends with an explosion of confetti before guests exit into the playground.
This show outlasted any expectations for a show based on a preschool television show, outlasting the show that it's based on by a decade. Kidzone was almost replaced multiple times over the years, with plans falling through at the last minute for multiple different proposed replacements, each giving the show new life for years.
The show would temporarily close due to the COVID19 pandemic before reopening with the park.
However this would not last long, and the show would close on August 9th, 2020. This was initially said to be a permanent closure, but an announcement would be made of the permanent closure on February 3rd.
This show was beloved by generations of children, and it will be missed. Hopefully, a worthy replacement will come to this location sometime soon in the future.
