Today marks the first significant new ride opening following the closure of every Disney Park around the world due to the COVID19 Pandemic. The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast opens in Fantasyland and The Happy Ride With Baymax opens nearby in Tomorrowland.

This expansion was originally set to open in spring alongside a theater that would host live performances, although that part of the expansion has been delayed indefinitely as a result of the inherent risks of that kind of attraction amid a pandemic. The project replaced two Tomorrowland rides with new attractions in Tomorrowland, Toontown, and Fantasyland.

The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is by far the most extensively themed part of the addition. Located in a new Beauty and the Beast-themed mini area, it is the first ride ever based on the classic attraction, and retells the story of the ride through an immersive and lengthy trackless musical dark ride.

The Happy Ride With Baymax is a clone of the same flat ride system seen in Disney California Adventure as Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and in Disney's Hollywood Studios as Alien Swirling Saucers, this time featuring a series of Baymax inspired ride vehicles.

This may serve as a model for future Disney attraction openings amid the pandemic, figuring out methods to deal with larger than normal crowds while still allowing for social distancing throughout the park and attractions. This could affect future openings like Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and potentially Avengers Campus (if and when the Disneyland Resort reopens).

Based on early previews there is no doubt that these two attractions will become instant classics in the park, and it is exciting that after months of delay guests are finally going to be allowed to experience these rides.
