Last year Disney brought its latest adaptation of a classic Disney animated film to the stage in New York City, in a way that they never had before. Disney brought Hercules to the stage as the final show of The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park series at the Delacorte Theater in the middle of Central Park.
This was performed for free as part of the Public Works series, with tickets to the week-long production being given out through a variety of online and in-person lotteries.
This show brought the classic animated musical to stage with a stunning cast of stage and screen actors.
The cast led by Jelani Aladdin from Frozen on Broadway as Hercules also included James Monroe Iglehart from Broadway's Aladdin as Phil, Krista Rodrigez as Megara, and original singing voice of Hercules Roger Bart as Hades.
The show was performed with a massive ensemble of community members that gave the show an insane sense of scale.
This show is currently the most recent Shakespear in the Park production performed in Central Park as a result of the cancelation of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Let us look fondly back on this production with the hope that this production will be staged again and that other productions will come to entertain theatergoers once again soon.
