Lake Compounce is a small family amusement park in Connecticut, but it has a long and interesting history with a lot of fun moments, and today we are going to share a few of them with you.
1. Historical Park
This is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the United States, having its 174th continuous season in 2020 amid the global pandemic with altered practices to allow for social distancing.
2. Musical Scandal
Lake Compounce ended up being the location behind a famous moment in music history, being the location where Milli Vanilli was exposed for lip-syncing. A track of the vocals got stuck during a concert at the park repeating a line of Girl You Know It's True over and over again. This started a much larger scandal that would end up ending the group as it was then known.
3. Chocolate Ownership
For a brief period, Lake Compounce was owned by the same company as Hersheypark and was renamed Hershey's Lake Compounce.
4. Actor Railroad
For much of its history, the park had a railroad named after William Gillette, the actor credited with creating several major elements of the film caricature of Sherlock Holmes in his silent film portrayal of the role.
5. Best Coaster In The World
Despite being a small regional park, this has one of the best coasters in the world, Boulder Dash, which consistently won awards for being the best wooden roller coaster when it got built.
6. Casino
The park has a former casino on the grounds that currently operates as the Croc Pot restaurant.
7. COVID19 Delay
A new attraction initially planned for the 2020 season, Venus Vortex was delayed to the next year due to the coronavirus.
8. Trackless Dark Ride
This park features a trackless dark ride version of the classic Ghost Blasters, the only one in the world.
9. Carousel
The classic carousel at the park is one of the oldest remaining in active use in the world.
10. Color Changing Attractions
Several attractions have had elements change colors over the years, notably Zoomerang, which switched from green and yellow to purple and blue.
