Just because the coronavirus may be halting progress on major attractions, including Venus Vortex at Lake Compounce, does not mean no work is getting done.
Lake Compounce just added a brand new mural to the park entrance. Located along the edge of the lift hill for the historic wooden roller coaster Wildcat that has served as the visual center of the park for much of its history.
It turned an empty section of the park that had never been used for anything more elaborate than face painting into a new iconic visual for the park. The mural itself, done in the style of classic retro postcards, features attractions from Wave Swinger to the iconic Boulder Dash that put Lake Compounce on the map.
This is a small but welcome addition to the park, immediately visible from the park entrance with its bright colors contrasting the massive white lift hill of the historic Wildcat roller coaster, and ready for social media.
Hopefully, we continue to see more of these small but impactful improvements to the parks in the coming months and years. It turned an underutilized area of the park into something that makes the park feel more unique and special without actually building anything new.
This is one of many changes for the better the park has been making in the past few years and let us hope it is not the last.
