Pixar started its exponential rise in popular culture following Toy Story as Disney began to fall from prominence after the Disney Renaissance. Every Pixar film found its way into the Disney Parks in some way.
Following Pixar's second hit A Bug's Life, Flik and Atta became a constant part of the Disney Parks, almost as popular as their Toy Story cousins. They were given significant places in parades and meet and greets all around the world almost immediately.
Eventually, they would get permanent locations in the US Disney Parks, becoming mainstays of Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney California Adventure.
At Disney California Adventure they would (especially Flik) appear around Bug's Land both wandering through the land and for meet and greets. They also had their own float in Pixar Play Parade, a classic parade at the Disneyland Resort.
Flik would commonly meet people outside his attraction until a few years ago when he was replaced with more popular characters like Timon.
Bug's Life was a hit of its era, but it has not had the staying power of many of Disney and Pixar's other movies. As one of the first Pixar hits its characters spread in the Disney Parks quickly due to a lack of other Pixar characters. As more popular franchises like Finding Nemo and Cars made their appearances, the presence of Flik and Atta disappeared, relegating them to only special events and rare meetings with their characters.
