Girl From The North Country is closing at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway. This show had a troubled history, that hopefully is not over, as it intends to reopen at a different theater in the spring later this year.
This show opened just before the pandemic closed all Broadway shows, beginning performances on February 7th and officially opening on March 5th, 2020, merely a week before COVID19 forced a shutdown of the production for well over a year.
Featuring the music of Bob Dylan utilized to tell a story about the Great Depression touching on themes still relevant to this day. It featured an untraditional musical structure while telling an emotional tale of an inn at a difficult time in American history.
The Broadway cast, featuring such standouts as Austin Scott, Mare Winningham, and Coltan Ryan amid a stellar ensemble cast, this show featured strong musical and dramatic performances.
Girl From The North Country never was given a proper chance to run on its own credit, constantly being interrupted by things beyond its control. Hopefully, if it gets the chance to reopen, it will be able to stand on its own feet for however long it deserves.
