Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in America, and home to one of the best roller coasters in the world, the wooden coaster Boulder Dash. But there are a good amount of other things to do nearby in Connecticut that you should consider adding on to your trip to Lake Compounce.

Here are just 10 additional things to do near Lake Compounce that could make a good addition to a trip to the park.

1. New England Carousel Museum

The New England Carousel Museum is a great compliment to a visit to Lake Compounce. Also found in Bristol Connecticut, this museum pays tribute to the history of one of the most popular amusement park rides, a carousel.

This museum holds a collection of artifacts from a variety of historic carousel models ranging most of the history of the ride type. They also often have active restoration work on carousels, including of the one at Lake Compounce, which can be fun to watch for any amusement park fan.

2. Sessions Woods

Located in Burlington near Bristol Connecticut where Lake Compounce is located, this public forest has miles of nature trails that can be a great place to unwind. It is a much lower intensity experience that can be a good relaxing counterpart to a day at an amusement park.

From the Bushnell which typically holds a variety of touring Broadway shows, to Hartford Stage, a regional theater that puts on high-class original productions, some of which have gone to Broadway, and one production that started here even won the Tony Award for Best Musical. If you are looking for some additional entertainment beyond an amusement park, seeing a show in Hartford can be a great place to go.

10. Hartford Yard Goats

If you want to add on a visit to a professional sports game to your visit to Lake Compounce, your best bet if probably going to see a Hartford Yard Goats game. This is a relatively new minor league baseball team that plays in a new stadium in Hartford Connecticut.
