Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in America, and home to one of the best roller coasters in the world, the wooden coaster Boulder Dash. But there are a good amount of other things to do nearby in Connecticut that you should consider adding on to your trip to Lake Compounce.

1. New England Carousel Museum
The New England Carousel Museum is a great compliment to a visit to Lake Compounce. Also found in Bristol Connecticut, this museum pays tribute to the history of one of the most popular amusement park rides, a carousel.
This museum holds a collection of artifacts from a variety of historic carousel models ranging most of the history of the ride type. They also often have active restoration work on carousels, including of the one at Lake Compounce, which can be fun to watch for any amusement park fan.
2. Sessions Woods
Located in Burlington near Bristol Connecticut where Lake Compounce is located, this public forest has miles of nature trails that can be a great place to unwind. It is a much lower intensity experience that can be a good relaxing counterpart to a day at an amusement park.
3. Southington Drive-In
Looking for a way to spend your night after a day at Lake Compounce? The Southington Drive-In is a great way to end your day if they are showing a movie that night. This classic-style drive-in shows a collection of classic and modern movies through the late spring, summer, and early fall.
4. Mount Southington
If you are visiting Lake Compounce during their holiday event, Mount Southington could be a great addition to your visit. This ski area is located just up the road from Lake Compounce and features several ski runs for people of all skill levels as well as lessons for people without any experience at all. 5. American Clock and Watch Museum
The American Clock and Watch Museum is an award-winning museum located near Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut. Honoring the history of the technology, specifically its connection to Connecticut, this can be a great way to spend a few hours away from the amusement park. With tons of historic artifacts, it is a nice educational experience and a chance to step back in time.
6. Imagine Nation
If you are traveling with small children, a trip to the Imagine Nation can be a great addition to a visit to Lake Compounce. This is an interactive museum aimed at children of elementary school age and below with a variety of special exhibits that are constantly being changed. It is a great way to give kids a break to hang out with people their own age, and maybe even learn something.
7. Quassy
Located a bit further from Lake Compounce than pretty much everything else on this list, roughly a half-hour drive from the park is another classic amusement park, Quassy. This park is also located on a lakeside and features a variety of classic and modern rides as well as a sizeable water wark and beach.
The most significant ride at the park is Wooden Warrior, a small-scale wooden roller coaster that is much better than it might appear at first glance. If you have the time, and enjoy amusement parks, Quassy is a nice compliment to Lake Compounce.
8. Hartford Theaters
The nearby city of Hartford has a variety of theaters that can make a good addition to a visit to Lake Compounce. From the Bushnell which typically holds a variety of touring Broadway shows, to Hartford Stage, a regional theater that puts on high-class original productions, some of which have gone to Broadway, and one production that started here even won the Tony Award for Best Musical. If you are looking for some additional entertainment beyond an amusement park, seeing a show in Hartford can be a great place to go.
9. Rich Farm
Rich Farm is one of the best ice cream spots in Connecticut and one of its locations is found in Bristol Connecticut. Featuring farm-fresh ice cream and daily special flavors, if you are looking for a sweet treat before or after your visit to Lake Compounce look no further than Rich Farm.
10. Hartford Yard Goats
If you want to add on a visit to a professional sports game to your visit to Lake Compounce, your best bet if probably going to see a Hartford Yard Goats game. This is a relatively new minor league baseball team that plays in a new stadium in Hartford Connecticut.
