Buzz Lightyear Rides Disneyland Vs. Disney World

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters Score Disneyland

The Buzz Lightyear shooter attractions are some of the most popular at any Disney Park. But which version stands out as the best in the US.

Welcome to Disneyland Vs. Disney World, where we compare versions of Disney attractions that are in both Disney World and Disneyland to decide which is the best version of the attraction. Today we are comparing Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin (Magic Kingdom) and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (Disneyland) to decide which is the better version.

Both of these attractions follow the same basic premise, of you joining Buzz and the Green Aliens on a mission to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg as he attempts to steal batteries.

The Magic Kingdom version of this is the original version of the attraction, reusing an omnimover system that dates back to the opening day of the Magic Kingdom. The queue is much longer and more elaborate than the Disneyland version, which mostly takes place outside.

It features a unique projection scene not seen in any other version of the attraction where you have to fight against Zurg in a projected space battle taking place all around you. Its opening disco scene was also never cloned to any other version of the attraction, depriving them of impressive effects.

The Disneyland version, on the other hand, has the advantage of updated technology and being built mostly from scratch.

The attraction had to fit in a preexisting building but other than that it had a lot more freedom in the design phase.

It benefits from this in having a more advanced scoring system that makes it easier to strategize while riding than it is in the original Magic Kingdom version of the attraction.

You also have more freedom in aiming as the guns are more mobile than the similar guns in the Magic Kingdom version.

So which version comes out on top?

Winner

Disneyland

Not only is the scoring system far superior but the sets are more elaborate and make for an overall better experience.
