Even at Walt Disney World, sometimes the normal show cannot go on due to weather, and this is a somewhat regular occurrence at the Magic Kingdom with their various parades and character cavalcades, which cannot be performed in the rain. But Disney does have a special rain version of their parades and cavalcades.
This alternate version of the show, known as a Rainy Day Cavalcade, typically features all the same characters you would see in the normal show, and in any special costumes they may have for that show. But instead of them appearing on their normal parade floats, they ride on some of the vehicles of Main Street USA, which have roofs to keep them dry in the bad weather.
While not as elaborate as the normal show in almost every instance, this is a special and rare treat that not everyone gets a chance to experience. It is a relatively unique way to see some of your favorite characters in a way you can't plan for.
This is a great example of the care that Disney puts into the guest experience, developing an alternate show rather than canceling a parade altogether. If you are willing to face the elements it can be a lot of fun, and these cavalcades normally do not have the same crowds as a full parade or cavalcade.
