Top 5 Best Star Wars Projects Since Disney Bought The Franchise

Cara Dune The Mandalorian and Greef Karga Disney Plus

Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise along with it in 2012 and since then Disney's decisions for the franchise have not exactly been the most popular. But while there have certainly been a few missteps, there are also plenty of major success stories from Disney's Star Wars projects, so we are counting down the top five best Star Wars projects since Disney bought the franchise.

5. Solo A Star Wars Story

While this movie was far from the success Disney wanted it to be, it was still a very enjoyable film, giving audiences a different kind of Star Wars journey for the first time. For once the entire galaxy was not at stake allowing this to exist as a high-energy and comedic heist movie within the Star Wars universe. It expanded what a Star Wars film could be while expanding the universe and giving us more time with classic characters from Han Solo, to Lando Calrissian and even Darth Maul.

4. Star Wars Rebels

Following in the footsteps of the earlier Star Wars The Clone Wars, this high quality animated series was one that Star Wars fans young and old could enjoy, giving a peek at the early days of the rebellion against the Empire. It filled in this gap in the Star Wars timeline well with its set of original characters, as well as occasional appearances from classic characters from the franchise, including Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader.

3. Star Wars The Force Awakens

This movie was one of the most anticipated in recent memory and it did not disappoint. While the next two entries of the sequel trilogy remained divisive, this film relaunched the series with a nostalgic vengeance, introducing us to the next generation of Star Wars characters. Taking a storyline heavily inspired by A New Hope, this film gave us more time with Leia, Han Solo, C-3PO, and more while telling us what happened after the second Death Star blew up.

2. The Mandalorian

The first Star Wars live-action TV series helped to launch an entire streaming service and took the internet by storm with its breakout character, Baby Yoda (ok The Child). The series feels of the same quality as any film in the franchise, and it has continued to build mysteries connected to the entire Star Wars universe. Also notable is the series reintroducing the world to multiple animated characters in live-action for the first time. This series takes the best of the Star Wars films and translated it to a TV series without losing any of the action.

1. Rogue One A Star Wars Story

Rogue One was the first Star Wars film that was not connected to the Skywalker Saga and it ended up being one of the best movies in the entire franchise. From brilliant original characters to an inventive story leading directly into the opening events of A New Hope, this movie is definitively the best Star Wars outing Disney has made yet. The Darth Vader finale alone is one of, if not the best Star Wars scenes in any movie, and that is just one moment of this amazing film.
