Amusement History
Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in American, and it has seen its fair share of attractions come and go over its long history. One of the most recent lost attractions in the classic amusement park is the Sky Ride.
The park is located in a beautiful setting on the edge of a mountain and a small lake, and some of the best attractions are the ones that make use of this amazing setting.
The Sky Ride was one of these. Located at one of the furthest edges of the park this ride was a ski lift up the park's mountain. It would take you all the way to the top of the hill before turning back around and returning to the park.
The attraction was very popular among younger guests and teenagers at the park. On the way back you got amazing views of the park from above as well as the surrounding area.
The ride would close down in 2017 following a high-profile incident involving an injury on a similar ride at nearby amusement park Six Flags Great Escape.
The park promised the area of the load station would be used in the future for attraction, but it continues to sit empty to this day. Expansion plans for Lake Compounce were put on hold due to the 2020 COVID19 Pandemic, but no plans were announced for this area prior to it as well.
Hopefully, Lake Compounce will put a new attraction in this location someday soon.
