Much of Disney California Adventure's least popular features have been gradually removed since the park first opened, but along the way some of the best elements were lost as well to make way for better things. Today we pay tribute to one of these great lost locations, with a look at the Cove Bar.
The Cove Bar was an opening day bar on Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure. Located above the location known most for Ariel's Grotto.
It was an outside patio that looked out on the rest of Paradise Pier.
This bar was mainly catered to adults, serving a collection of Disney inspired alcoholic cocktails, but children were allowed in if accompanied by an adult.
The spot was themed with various elements that might be found on a boardwalk amusement park as well as references to other attractions in the land.
It was also known for a secret drinks menu, and its amazing view of the rest of Pixar Pier.
One of the hidden secrets of this bar, was that it could be a great place to watch World of Color at the end of the night.
Located along the edge of Paradise Bay, it provided a side view of the nighttime spectacular. While this did not provide a great view of the projections, it gave you an unobstructed look at all of the fountains. It was a great place to watch the show, as long as it wasn't your only time watching the show.
The trick to this was asking for a spot along the water close to closing time. Typically the bar would close prior to the start of World of Color, but you would be allowed to stay through the show as long as you did not leave the location.
When Paradise Pier was transformed into Pixar Pier the Cove Bar did not get a direct replacement. Both it and Ariel's Grotto were combined into the larger Lamplight Lounge, which incorporated a bar into the larger restaurant.
With the exception of new decorations, the terrace remained largely unchanged.
The Cove Bar remains a wonderful part of Disney California Adventure history, and it lives on in spirit in its successor, Lamplight Lounge.
