Lightkeepers Electrical Parade: Never Built Disneyland

Never Built Disneyland

Tomorrowland Disneyland at Sunset

Disneyland in the late 1980s to early 1990s was facing two problems at the same time, the aging Tomorrowland that desperately needed replacing, and the aging Main Street Electrical Parade that Disneyland wanted to replace with something else. These two things almost came together for one parade that would have represented a unique moment in Disneyland history.

Disney was considering a massive overhall plan for Tomorrowland known as Tomorrowland 2055 that would have moderinized it as a alien futuristic city.

As part of this plan, the Main Street Electrical Parade would have been replaced by a new parade known as Lightkeepers. It would have been a very different parade featuring aliens and almost entirely devoid of Disney characters.

This parade was canceled alongside Tomorrowland 2055, but it was reportadley the furthest along in development of all of the projects connected to this development. There is some speculation that the replacement for Main Street Electrical Parade that did happen, reutilized many of the concepts from this lost parade.

Light Magic had a similar concept, only utilizing faries instead of aliens. Light Magic would end up becoming one of the biggest flops in Disneyland history. It is difficult to say if the Lightkeepers version would have been any better.
