One of the first ways that Disney characters were added to Disney California Adventure was in the stage show featuring preschool characters from Disney's television channel aimed at younger children. This show had two names during its life, first being called Playhouse Disney Live On Stage and then being renamed to Disney Junior Live On Stage, a name it retained until it closed.
Disney Junior Live On Stage (as we will refer to it for the rest of the article) featured an ever-rotating set of Disney television shows for over a decade, featuring everything from Bear In The Big Blue House to Sofia The First during its run.
This was a live show that featured various Disney characters appearing on stage in puppet form, allowing them to move, talk, and sing.
Each television show would get a short segment in the show, typically a shortened version of an episode that tied into a larger shared storyline of the full show. Each show also got a storybook inspired background set fitting with the style of the show.
The show was a perfect way to incorporate children's television into the Disney Parks, with the show easily being overhauled every few years to add a few new shows, and remove ones that had been taken off the air.
The final version of this show would close in 2017 to be replaced by another Disney Junior themed stage show, although without the puppets.
The Disney Junior Dance Party replaced this show in Disney California Adventure and it continued to run until the Disneyland Resort closed amid the COVID19 Pandemic. It is uncertain if the show will return when the Disneyland Resort is allowed to reopen.
