Hairspray Live was one of many live musicals done at Universal, and unlike the others, portions of this musical were filmed significantly outside, mainly on Courthouse Square, the film location made famous by the Back to the Future film series.
Following the airing of the special, the set of this musical was left up for people to enjoy on the Universal Studio Tour.
The entire street was given a 60s inspired overlay with some of the shops and locations from the iconic Broadway musical.
The former town of Hill Valley became the streets of Baltimore, with special facades and street signs that brought you into the world of Tracey Turnblad, the Corney Collins Show, and Ultraclutch Hairspray.
The set still remains up, recently being featured in the background of the current season of America's Got Talent, which was also filmed in the same section of the Universal Studio Backlot.
