Review: The Mandalorian Chapter 7: The Reckoning

The Mandalorian Title

The Mandalorian is nearing the end of its first season and this week we got an episode on Wednesday to coincide with the release of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.

As always the review will include a spoiler-free and spoiler-filled section.

This episode was different than the rest in that it actually starts to tie together the rest of the season. Most of the other episodes could have been watched without any prior knowledge of the series, but this one definitely requires that you have watched the entire season to get a full understanding of the episode.

There is some slight lore building regarding The Child showcasing some new powers.

The episode spends a lot of time world-building, giving us a new Star Wars planet to explore alongside Mando and his team.

The season's narrative is definitely beginning to reach its end and while this episode was far from the most exciting it is good to see where some of the early threads that were seemingly abandoned were actually going.

The episode ends on a cliff hanger that will surely lead us into the final episode of a first season that met the insane expectations that were placed on it.

Spoiler Warning

During this episode we see Mando go back and put together a team of allies from the rest of the season, including Cara Dun and Kuiil.

We also see more of The Child's (Baby Yoda) force powers, as it uses the force choke on Cara Dune. If I'm not mistaken this is the first time someone other than a Sith Lord or someone on the edge of the dark side has used this power in the main Star Wars franchise.

A large part of the episode we spend on Nevaro where most of the action sequences involve native creatures instead of sentient enemies in a sequence that rivals the best Star Wars monster battles from any of the trilogies.

But towards the end, we get to see what remains of the empire in one of the first Star Wars battles where it feels that the Stormtroopers pose an actual threat and they actually kill a significant character.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, and while we won't spoil it here just be prepared for a shock that will lead us into the last episode of the season.
