Spacestation Earth: Disneyland's Never Built Westcot

Disneyland's Never Built Westcot

Spaceship Earth Epcot Building Walt Disney World

Westcot was set to reimagine the Epcot concept for the west coast, becoming the second theme park at the Disneyland Resort. Just Like Epcot Center, this park was set to feature a giant geodesic sphere as its icon, but this would not simply be a clone of Spaceship Earth.

The icon of Westcot was supposed to be known as Spacestation Earth, and it would share the same tile design as Spaceship Earth. But this was set to be a much bigger building, standing as high as 300 feet compared to the original Spaceship Earth which was merely 180 feet. It was also planned to feature a gold color scheme.

This building would have been located at the entrance of the park, but due to the design of Westcot, this was between the two major sections of the park, Future World and World Showcase, rather than just in an entrance plaza.

Westcot would eventually be canceled in no small part due to the extensive cost of its elaborate theming, something represented by the scale of this proposed attraction. It not ony was supposed to hold an elaborate dark ride like the original Spaceship Earth, but Spacestation Earth was to be an even more massive icon for the park.

Had this been built, the skyline of the Disneyland Resort would have been permanently changed beyond recognition.

Nothing like this was ever built in the Disneyland Reosort, or any Disney Park outside or Epcot.
