Is Disney Inflating Wait Times To Increase Lightning Lane Sales

Disney Adventurer

There have been growing reports on various social media platforms that Disney may be lying about their wait times at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in an attempt to sell more Lightning Lanes. So is this really happening, and does Disney lie about their wait times?

Yes, Disney lies about their wait time, and if you read their policies they will openly tell you this. They have done this for years, and this is not a new thing, although some reports are that it is getting more dramatic.

Disney has traditionally lied about its wait times on a very consistent basis. They mainly do this for two reasons.

Tomorrowland Speedway Ride Station Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World

One of these reasons is for crowd distribution manipulation. Disney never wants one area of the park, or one ride, to have everyone in it at the same time. This then could cause them to inflate the wait time of attractions to get people out of a land, or shrink a wait time of a ride being overwhelmed.

The second reason is actually sort of part of the Disney magic. Disney in general likes to overestimate wait times largely because they'd rather you be shocked that you waited less time than what is listed, rather than be upset that you waited longer than the posted wait time.

So yes, Disney lies about wait times, but are they now lying about their wait times even more because of Lightning Lane? It may be possible, but it is likely too early to know. If these reports are true, than these social media reports should continue over the next few months, hopefully giving a more definitive answer to this question as time goes on.
