Broadway is back open following a lengthy closure, and this spring sees some of the first new shows opening in two years. All new musicals have currently announced runs on Broadway, breathing new life into the New York theater district.

Paradise Square is a musical currently planning on starting performances on Broadway in the Barrymore Theatre on March 15th, 2022. Featuring a story set in the five points neighborhood during the Civil War, it features original music by the people behind the musical versions of shows such as Little Women and Amelie and the same production previously ran in Chicago.

A Strange Loop

A Strange Loop won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, an incredibly rare feat for a musical to accomplish, only ten ever have, including classics new and old such as A Chorus Line, Hamilton, Rent, and more. The show previously ran both Off Broadway, and in Washington DC, and all previous productions featured stellar reviews. This musical is likely to be a major Tony Awards contender when it opens this spring in the Lyceum Theatre.

Mr. Saturday Night

Based on the film of the same name and starring Billy Crystal and Shoshana Bean, this musical will be opening at the Nederlander on March 1st, 2022. Featuring music by Jason Robert Brown, composer of such musicals as The Last Five Years, Parade, 13, and more, this musical is opening cold on Broadway without any prior engagements.

Funny Girl

The first-ever revival of Funny Girl is opening on Broadway this spring. Beginning performances on March 26th, 2022 at the August Wilson Theatre, this show features a cast led by Beanie Feldstein, but also including such stars as Jane Lynch and Ramin Karimloo. This is the first time one of the most iconic musicals of all time has returned to Broadway since its initial run.
