Preshows are a part of many different Disneyland attractions, and the best ones add to the quality of the overall ride experience. So what are the best current preshows out of all of the rides currently running at the two parks of the Disneyland Resort?
Here is a rundown of five of the best preshows at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
5. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room has an untraditional preshow that occurs all around you as you wait for the show to begin at Disneyland, and it is different than any other version of the show in the world. Featuring a variety of tiki versions of various Polynesian gods, this preshow features humorous moments with each of them, as each shows off some fun effects. This is also rewatchable as due to the placement of the tiki figures, it is difficult to see them all in one showing.
4. Indiana Jones Adventure
The preshow for Indiana Jones Adventure features a smaller character from the film series, Sallah, as he showcases the storyline for the ride. You are set as a tourist coming to the Temple of the Forbidden Eye for untold riches, but there is a catch. If you look into the eyes of Mara, the idol of the temple, you will be doomed to spend eternity in the temple. This is all done in a time period appropriate projection screen slide show, and filled with humor that could have come right out of one of the films.
The one downside is Disney has been playing with this preshow in recent years, but in its purest form it is one of the best in Disneyland.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout
Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout had the challenge of having to reimagine the basic infrastructure of Tower of Terror into an entirely new experience, including notably its preshow. It managed to take the same room and create an entirely new experience within it. Featuring an incredibly detailed Rocket Raccon animatronic, this is a high-energy and funny preshow filled with tons of small references to not only other Marvel films, but also other Disney rides past and present. They even made the doors to the preshow and ride a part of the preshow experience, turning perhaps one of the most mundane parts of the ride into a fun part of the overall experience and story.
2. Haunted Mansion
The Stretching Room of the Haunted Mansion is one of the most iconic parts of the entire attraction, including many of the ride's most iconic lines. It is so famous for a reason, it is nearly the perfect preshow. It introduces the ride and its general tone, manages to be funny while helping introduce the ride's plot, and has enough details to be re ridable an incredible amount of times.
There is a reason this is the subject of so much merchandise. It is an unmissable part of the ride experience more than perhaps any other attraction.
1. Star Wars Rise of the Resistance
Star Wars Rise of the Resistance is one of the newest attractions at Disneyland, and its preshow is unlike any other. This is a ride where the preshows are truly a part of the actual ride, extending the full experience with animatronics, live cast members, and multiple different rooms all filled with exciting world-building essential to the storyline of the ride.
This preshow is modern, exciting, and builds suspense and excitement for the actual ride, which is what an ideal preshow should do.
