Extinct Disney Parks Tribute

The Main Street Electrical Parade is 50 years old, and during its extensive history, it has had a number of significant changes. One of the biggest happened in 2022, when it was announced that the longstanding patriotic To Honor America finale would be replaced with a new It's A Small World themed float.

So let us look back at the history of this float, in the various versions of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

To Honor America was not an original unit in the parade, only becoming a part of the parade as a part of the 1979 season when the Main Street Electrical Parade was revamped at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom.

Since then it has been a part of every run of the Main Street Electrical Parade at the Disneyland Resort prior to the closure of the parks during the pandemic.

Since its premiere, it has become the longstanding and most recognizable finale float in the parade's history in both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World versions of the parade.

This parade unit was not cloned to the two international versions of the parade though, being replaced with a different It's A Small World themed float for both the Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris versions of the parade.

This was a uniquely American parade float, that really only worked within Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Even then, as more international visitors came to each of these resorts, this float was not something that could be enjoyed equally by all visitors to the Disneyland Resort due to this uniquely American theme.

At the moment, this parade float is being rethemed into an It's A Small World themed float with characters from Disney films taking place in countries around the world, including Encanto, Brave, Hercules, and more. In this way, it is following in the path of the more recent versions of the parade, and incorporating Disney characters into the only unit in the parade that never featured them.

It still remains to be seen what the reception of this reimagined end float will be, but it will replace a float that has been a part of the Main Street Electrical Parade for much of its history.

In the meantime, it is time to remember and say goodbye to a longstanding part of the Main Street Electrical Parade.
