Company, the musical from Stephen Sondheim currently has a revival on Broadway, headed by Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone. Here are five fun facts about this current modern production of Company on Broadway.
1. Gender Bent
The current revival of Company is a gender-bent production, where the gender of several characters, including Bobbie and Jamie/Amy are changed, but the script and music of the show itself remain largely unchanged.
2. Original Opening Date
If the Broadway shutdown had not happened, this production was set to officially open on Broadway on Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday.
3. Returning Cast Member
Patti LuPone returned to Company to play the character of Joanne in this production. She had previously played the part in a New York concert production and in the West End version of this show.
4. Orchestra
The orchestra of this musical is onstage for the entire performance, allowing you to watch them play all of the music of Company.
5. Number of Productions
This is the fourth production of Company on Broadway.
