Cosmic Journeys: Disneyland's Never Built Westcot

Disneyland's Never Built Westcot

Westcot was set to add a variety of Epcot attractions to the Disneyland Resort for the first time. But in addition to clones of these attractions, this park also would have added a new version of a classic Disneyland attraction into Future World in Westcot.

Adventures Through Inner Space was a classic Tomorrowland ride in Disneyland. Located where Star Tours The Adventures Continue is found today, this ride was the first omnimover attraction, and featured a story where you were shrunk down on your ride vehicle and explored a snowflake at the microscopic level.

This ride closed to make way for the original Star Tours, but it remained a fan favorite attraction for many that had experienced it.

As a part of the new park, a spiritual successor known as Cosmic Journeys would have focused on the same basic theme but using modern technology. This would have allowed the ride to have significantly better effects than the original, and it would have given the future-focused side of the park its own exclusive attraction.

When Westcot was canceled, this ride was canceled alongside it, meaning no new dark ride based on shrinking was ever built in the Disneyland Resort.

This was a rare instance of Disney attempting to revisit a former ride, and even if it never happened it is interesting to know that Disney still cared enough for this former Disneyland ride to attempt to bring it back to life.
