Stand-up roller coasters have a reputation for being some of the most painful roller coasters that you can experience in the world. But if you know the proper way to ride them they can be less painful and may be enjoyable.

Here is a basic guide on the proper way to ride a stand-up roller coaster.

Much of your enjoyment riding a stand-up roller coaster entirely is based on how the restraints get attached to you. The most important thing is you want to make sure that you are in a comfortable position within the ride's restraints, but that you also have a little bit of room, without having too much room to move around.

Basically, you want to make sure that your feet can rest entirely flatly on the floor of the ride vehicle. You do not want them to be kind of floating above the floor. If you have too much room, you will be crushed in the ride vehicle as you are thrown around significantly more than you have to be on each ride vmovement. Too little room however and you will get crushed in a whole different way, by being pressed to close to everywhere the ride restraint holds you in.

The best way to ride a stand-up roller coaster is to ensure that the restraints are placed with a little bit of room around you by standing with your knees slightly bent as the restraints are put on. Really just make sure you are in a position that you are okay being in throughout the entire duration of the roller coaster. Do not stand with your legs entirely locked, because that will likely be a very uncomfortable position to hold throughout the entire roller coaster. You probably won't be able to hold it as one of the bumps will cause your knees to bend, then you will be in a more painful position.

Just a slight bend so that you are standing in a somewhat natural position that is relaxed but not too relaxed is ideal. This isn't really scientific or specific, but that's really the only way to explain how to ride a standing roller coaster. It honestly just requires a level of experience and the first couple of times you ride a stand-up roller coaster, it's probably going to hurt.

Stand up roller coasters put you in an awkward position that for some people just isn't that comfortable no matter how you position yourself on the ride.
