5 Disney Rides Older Than Their Park

Disney fills its parks with attractions of all kinds. Most of them are incredibly detailed custom rides you can't find anywhere else. But very rarely they reuse rides from other parks.

Here are 5 rides that existed before they were put in their current park.

King Arthur Carousel

King Arthur Carousel was an opening day attraction at Disneyland, but it is actually even older than that. The ride actually existed since 1922 where it was a part of Toronto Canada's Sunnyside Beach Park. Disney bought the ride for Fantasyland and made several changes. They added a fourth row of horses and converted all of the horses into jumpers. This ride has been a part of Disneyland ever since and is the second oldest ride in any Disney Park behind only Prince Charming Regal Carousel which is 5 years older.

Another change made to the carousel was to remove the benches. However, the benches remain a part of Disneyland to this day. Disneyland, always running behind was not about to let anything go to waste. The benches were converted into parts of the Casey Jr. Circus Train ride vehicles.

Gran Fiesta Tour Animatronics

Recently three animatronics of Donald, Jose, and Panchito were added to the Gran Fiesta Tour in Epcot and it was a massive improvement. But these animatronics were actually present at the first ever publicity event in 1966. They were then a part of the opening day show at the Magic Kingdom, the Mickey Mouse Revue. This ride then moved to become an opening day attraction at Tokyo Disneyland. After closing there the animatronics were refurbished and added to the Epcot ride, meaning they not only predate Epcot but also the entire Walt Disney World Resort.

Carousel of Progress

The Carousel of Progress has one of the most complicated histories of any Disney ride. It was designed for the 1964 World's Fair in New York, then moved to Disneyland, then moved to the Magic Kingdom to its current location. That does not even begin to describe the numerous different versions of the attraction in each location. The ride which still operates to this day opened 7 years prior to the Magic Kingdom itself.

Disney Railroad Locomotives

Railroads are found in every Disney castle park except Shanghai Disneyland. They are dedicated to Walt Disney's own love of trains and many of the locomotives used are actual historic locomotives repurposed for the park. The oldest of which is the Fred Gurley at the Disneyland Railroad. This was originally built in 1894 making it the oldest rideable thing in any Disney park.
