Fall is typically one of the main times when a significant number of new Broadway shows open, and this year is no different. There are many new Broadway plays and musicals set to open this fall to entertain guests.
Here are five of the new musicals currently set to open on Broadway this fall.
1. 1776
Opening on Broadway this fall at the American Airlines Theatre is a newly reimagined production of 1776. This production features an entirely female and nonbinary cast in a new retelling of the creation of the Declaration of Independence utilizing the classic structure of the musical. This musical is set to play a limited run through January on Broadway.
2. Almost Famous
Almost Famous is a new adaptation of the classic film of the same name set to open on Broadway this fall. With music by Tom Kitt and Cameron Crowe creating the music, this show will bring the film to life on stage for the first time.
3. Some Like It Hot
Some Like It Hot is an all-new musical adaptation of the classic Marylin Monroe film of the same name. With music by the composers of such hits as Hairspray and the Bombshell songs from the TV series Smash, this is a high profile adaptation of a classic Hollywood film, set to be headlined by Christian Borle, J Harison Ghee, and Adrianna Hicks.
4. K-POP
K-POP is a new musical opening up at the Circle In The Square Theatre. This musical is inspired by the musical genre that has become an international sensation, with both an original story and music. It is expected to be an immersive production.
5. Kimberly Akimbo
Kimberly Akimbo is a critically aclaimed and award winning musical whick played off Broadway in 2021. It is a musical adaptation of the play of the same name that will be transfering to Broadway for the first time with the off Broadway cast.
